Two new projects chosen for LAFF support
From March 2011, LAFF will be working to support two new projects in the Cusco region in Peru - Casa Mantay and the Sacred Valley Project. See our Projects pages for more information on these exciting and very worthy new projects.
Azul Wasi's Greenhouse Flourishes
Jan 2011 - Azul Wasi goes from strength to strength thanks to LAFF's investment in vocational training and sustainability projects. The boys have benefitted from lessons from local bakery professionals and a greenhouse expert which as much as some floury faces has also resulted in a more healthy diet for the home.
Capacity building support for Peru projects
Oct 2011 - Our International Projects Manager Fran is now able to provide hands-on capacity building support for our Peruvian partners, to ensure long-term planning, transparent accounting and realistic budgeting, amongst other key aspects of management. Taking them one step closer to sustainability in the future. See Fran's blog for more.
Full-time support for Azul Wasi
From August 2010 Azul Wasi will benefit from two permanent volunteers at the home thanks to a partnership LAFF helped establish with Project Trust. Our own Trustee Fran Talavera will also be going out to support the home and other projects to become more self-sustaining and effective, from September 2010.
Floods subside at Azul Wasi
Azul Wasi kids home is located in the valley just outside of Cusco. On Monday 25th January 2010, heavy floods hit the whole region. Thanks to your generosity and support we were able to save the children's home from the floods, as well as working hard to raise awareness through the BBC - their report on the floods and Azul Wasi can be seen here.
The children were evacuated from the home and temporarily housed whilst with the help of volunteers we created a flood barrier wall to protect the home. We are now working to repair any temporary damage, and the children are safely back at the home, and able to start back at school in the new academic year.
LAFF donates mini bus to Azul Wasi
Jan 2010 - Funds from LAFF's Christmas event have gone to buy a mini bus for Azul Wasi. Alcides, founder of the home, reports "the minibus will be invaluable to transport the children to school and fetch supplies, especially in the rainy season".
LAFF Trustees visit Azul Wasi
Sept 2009 - LAFF Trustee board have just returned from visiting
Azul Wasi - the home for street children in Cusco, Peru. We are now able to fund lots of exciting new projects with money raised from the 'Are you having a LAFF?' Channel Swim and Diego Maldonado's cycle challenge to Paris, amongst other fundraising.
Amongst other projects, we will be committing to pay for the home's guardian for 2010, in conjunction with a small-scale farming project. By 2011, the farming project will be able to generate enough income to cover the costs of the guardian's wage, meaning our funding can be directed to support other income-generation projects.
New Term - New Start for Street Kids - thanks to LAFF supporters
March 2009 - The new school term in Peru is about to start, and the kids of Azul Wasi are getting excited - for the first time they are able to go to school without worries about how they will afford their studies. Money donated by those attending LAFF's last fundraiser has been sent to Azul Wasi kids' home to pay for school registration, school uniforms, books and stationery for every child, so they can concentrate on their studies, not how to afford them. Thank you so much to everyone who attended and supported!
